Second town of the province of Malaga. Marbella and Puerto Banus are the most attractive centres of the Costa del Sol in the south of Spain. The “Feria de St. Barnabé” the first week of June, is the most popular celebration in Marbella. During the day the “Feria” is situated in he historical town centre, in the evening everyone goes to the fairgrounds. This celebration is deeply Andalusian and many tourists come to enjoy the customs and traditions. In May you can go on the pilgrimage to the “Cruz de Juanar”, an emblematic place in the mountains of the same name. The celebration of the “Semana Santa” in Marbella is a great tradition which does not only correspond to the customs of the many foreign residents but has also been developed in recent decades by the creation of new brotherhoods. There are 9 brotherhoods that makes relive the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the walls of the ancient Arab Castle is a very nice historical scenery to see the entrance scene of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem and Nuestra Señora de la Paz, on Palm Sunday. The descent from the throne of María Santísima del Calvario from her hermitage, on Holy Thursday, is on a plastic point of view, one the most surprising moment of this Easter event in Marbella. In the old town, you will find “La Plaza de los Naranjos” in an aera surprisingly well preserved with its small white streets and balconies well decorated with flowers. There you will find the Townhall dating from the sixteenth century and very well preserved ; the Santiago chapel built in the fifteenth century was the first Christian church of the city ; and the “Casa del Corregidor” which was built in the sixteenth century. Nearby is the church of the Encarnation whose works began in the seventeenth century, the San Juan de Dios chapel dating from the sixteenth century which belonged to the former hospital, the Santo Cristo de la Vera Cruz chapel built in the sixteenth century, and finally the hospital Bazán which houses the Museum of Spanish contemporary Art since 1992. The Museum Cortijo Miraflores, the Museum Ralli and the Municipal Archaeological collection also deserve to be part of this cultural tour of Marbella..
